Gangotri- One of the Dham

The position of initiation of shri Bhagirathi is positioned at a distance of 28 kms. The place of worship of Bhagirathi is located at Gangotri. In this place of worship figures of Shri Ganga ji, Yamuna ji, Lakshmi ji, Saraswati ji, Parwati ji and Annapurna ji are seen. All items of Pooja are prepared up by Gold only. An impenetrable jungle of deodar is also to be found here. The shrine of Ganga is sited on the right bank of the Bhagirathi (Ganga) and its voyage can be observed in a variety of moods profound and quiet in the lower plains, but at Gangotri, Bhagirathi it is splashing, hurling, frothing and lively in an overjoyed air. Bhagirthi is pretty diverse from Alaknanda, Saraswati and Yamuna, so the stream of Gangotri is taken to Rameshwaram in south India and presented to Lord Shiva. There are in addition a few Ashrams and Dharamshalas on the left bank of Bhagirathi.

Gaumukh
Gaumukh is the known resource of Ganga. The Gangotri Glacier which is approximately 6 to 8 KM in breadth and just about 24 K.M in distance end to end is positioned at an altitude of 4255 m beyond sea level and placed in the mind of the Gangotri Peaks. The most excellent time to holiday in Gaumukh is from June to Septmber every year. Earlier than June and subsequent to October the bristle pathway can be full of danger.

Devotees take one dip very soon in the freezing water of Gaumhukh and the Hindus with parochial outlook suppose that even a lone dip in the Gaumukuhi water is enough to clean away all the sins and accomplish the intention of one's life. Just 3 kms from Gaumukh, amid the two Glaciers, Meru and Gangotri, there extends a huge plain Known as "Tapovanam". It is an enormously stunning spot that enthralls the mind by its usual charisma. Nandanvan is opposite Tapovan.

Yamunotri
The shrine of Yamuna ji is the chief place of worship. In the vicinity of this temple there are a small number of hot water springs where the water comes out of the mountains hollow space and is scorching hot. Surya-Kund is the main kund. A dash of rice or potatoes, put with a loose knot in a cloth, are put in it and following a few minutes when taken out they are wholly cooked. These are taken home and used as prasad. In the close proximity to the Surya Kund there is a shila called Divya-Shila which is respected before puja is offered to Yamunaji.

Close by is the Jamuna Bai Kund constructed about 75 years ago and is used for a sacred bath. The water is pleasingly warm and comforting.

What the Brazilians brought to the world

Brazil is known for being one of the liveliest places to go on holiday, but why is this? Well Brazil has got a lot about it that people around the world love. Here are the best things about the largest country in South America;

Carnival – when it comes to partying no-one does it better than the Brazilians. Every year for the 4 days leading up to Ash Wednesday the Brazilians partake in the biggest party in the world. It’s a time for everyone to have time off work and spend the days and nights partying through the streets of their town or city. The carnival is to celebrate the last excess before the beginning of Lent, so while the Brazilians have a 4 day party the UK have Pancake Day, doesn’t quite seem fair does it?

Beaches – now there are beaches all over the world and many will say that there are a lot more beautiful beaches in other countries, but for the amount, range and style of the beaches, Brazil really is the place to go. Brazil is a large country and the whole east side is on the coast so there are hundreds of miles of beaches. The north east is said to have the most beautiful beaches, with white sand and turquoise sea. They are great for scuba diving and snorkelling. If you want a beach to party on it has to be Ipanema and Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro, they are some of the most famous beaches in the world and have amazing scenery. Go to Copacabana at any time of the day to see families and friends having a great time on the beach.

Havaianas – the started off as a flip flop seen to be for the less well off, sold in the local stores but in the past few years they have taken off to be the must have summer item of clothing. They are a flip flop made of 100% rubber and are seen as the most comfortable flip flops. As well as being comfortable they are also very stylish and the most popular range has the Brazil flag on the strap.

Music – though there may not be many Brazilian artists in the charts, this doesn’t stop the influence Brazil has had on music. Samba is the most famous style of Brazilian music, it’s the music played at the carnival and the distinctive drumming, features in music from all styles. Another style of music the Brazilians introduced to the world is Bossa Nova, this was started in 1956 by Joao Gilberto and had produced a number of famous songs, including The Girl from Ipanema, which won a Grammy in 1956 for Record if the Year.

Brazil is a country of many great inventions and amazing scenery, if you get the chance pack you bikini and a pair of Black Havaianas and get yourself off to Brazil.

Falling Asleep While Driving

Falling asleep while driving is more common than you think. As scary as it may seem, more people fall asleep at the wheel each and every day while driving than ever. One time, while I was driving on the road on the way to the beach in North Carolina, I noticed an older driver on the other side of the road driving in the opposite direction as me.

The reason that this driver caught my attention was because of his driving. I noticed that while the rest of the traffic (which was light) seemed to be moving in a fluid, straight direction, his vehicle seemed to be wavering- not quite swerving, but more of a drifting pattern. Sure enough, no sooner had I found myself observing this man's driving from a distance and had passed him going in the opposite direction, I suddenly saw a cloud of dust in my rearview mirror. When I glanced behind me, I glanced back just in time to notice that this same driver had actually drifted off the side of the road and was actively driving off the side of the road into an embankment, leaving a cloud of dirt and dust behind him. I found out later that this gentleman had simply fallen asleep at the wheel while driving. I found out that he was ok, and I was only too glad to find out that he hadn't hurt anyone else in this seemingly small mishap.

Not many of us realize it, but we are incredibly lucky each day when we get behind the wheel of a car and survive somehow. I say it like this because there are so many irresponsible drivers out there, that it is enough to blow your mind. There have been times, both when I was a police officer as well as when I was a civilian, when I have observed people I know do incredibly stupid things when getting ready to drive. For instance, there was a time (not too long ago), when I was home visiting some friends and had gotten picked up at the airport by someone. When I later got back to my friend's house and I was walking back by their car, I noticed that there were several empty beer cans in the back seat in plain view. Now, while I am not entirely sure what the rules for drinking and driving are in the state of New York, I am only too sure that it is not legal to have any sort of open container in your vehicle. Now, what would happen if this friend were to get pulled over by the police on a routine traffic stop?

Falling asleep while driving, to some, is not the person's fault. However, to many other people, falling asleep is the sole responsibility of the person who is driving. If you know that you are going to have to drive somewhere, then you should make sure that you have adequate rest to do so. For example, when I know that I have to travel home to New York from North Carolina, I always try to make sure that I am in bed early enough so that I give myself at least eight hours of sleep. It is simply too risky to try driving a long distance in a vehicle when you are exhausted. Not only are you putting yourself at risk, but you are putting other people at risk.

Fast Food Driving

Fast food restaurants should be convenient; and most of the time, they are incredibly convenient. However, how safe are they for the millions of people who use them everyday as they make their way to work, school, practice or elsewhere?

Whenever I drive to a fast food restaurants with my boyfriend, he always gets annoyed if I am the one who is driving because I prefer to skip the drive-thru and go inside the establishment instead in order to place my order for a meal. I feel that when I am sitting at a drive-thru window, there is simply too much pressure placed on me to figure out what it is that I want right away when what I need is more time to decide what it is that I want to eat to begin with! That being said, I also feel that after I order my food, I don't feel comfortable driving off with it right away. Rather, I would prefer to park my car or go inside of the restaurant so that I can eat what I ordered. I like to look at what I am eating, and in order to make that happen safely, I can't drive at the same time. I mean, I could drive while eating fast food, but I wouldn't claim to say that it is the safest thing in the world.

Driving while eating (in my opinion) is incredibly dangerous. There are too many distractions when you are eating. Not only this, but when you are eating, you need both of your hands (usually) in order to eat efficiently. Now, there are some people who are clearly exceptions to this rule. My boyfriend is one of those people. He is what I like to call a "fast food professional". He has been to every drive-thru of every fast food restaurant, knows what all of the menus say and exactly how much each meal will wind up costing so that he knows exactly how much change to have handy.

Just because there are people like my boyfriend who are fast-food-ready and have been through the motions of ordering, driving and eating fast food while in the car behind the wheel, this doesn't necessarily mean that it is the right thing to do. When you are driving a car or other type of vehicle, you have to make sure that all of your attention is where it should be: on the road. If you are eating, you inevitably are forcing yourself to divide your attention between the food you are consuming, the roadway before you and the other drivers around you.

So, what can you do if you are in a situation where you are eating and driving? If you are driving with someone who insists on stopping to eat, you can warn them that in the future, if they drive with you, you would prefer it if they didn't eat in your car (this way you don't have an excuse to stop at a fast food place), or you can simply ask if they mind if you sit for a while to finish your meal before you start to resume driving.

Experiencing Yucatecan Cuisine In Cancun

As Cancun has grown into a luxurious, cosmopolitan resort destination, the city now serves as host to an incredible array of restaurants featuring cuisines from throughout the world. Yet, for families visiting Cancun, authentic Mexican cuisine is often the first choice. While you will find plenty of Mexican staples in Cancun - including tacos, burritos, nachos and quesadillas - native dishes of the Yucatan Peninsula provide the most interesting and authentic dining opportunities. Influenced by everything from Spanish colonial recipes, ancient Mayan preparations and the flavors of the Caribbean region, Yucatecan cuisine is consistently cited as some of Mexico's most unique and flavorful food.

Utilizing a number of regional ingredients - including pumpkin seeds, sour oranges, native peppers and the traditional seasoning known as achiote - as well as traditional cooking methods, the Yucatecan dishes certainly stand out amongst the Cancun's more common Mexican offerings. Though Yucatecan food is typically mild in comparison to most Mexican cuisine, nearly all of the native dishes found in Cancun can be spiced up with authentic salsas and fiery peppers. Furthermore, many of the Yucatecan dishes found in Cancun represent age-old recipes that have found their way to the city from the peninsula's smallest towns, assuring travelers of a truly fascinating and historical dining experience. Here is a small selection of the Yucatecan foods that can be found in Cancun and throughout the Mayan Riviera.

Tixin-Xic - One of the most popular traditional Yucatecan dishes, this fish entree can be found on menus throughout Cancun. Tixin-Xic, pronounced "tee keen sheek," means "dry fish" in Mayan, a reference to the dish's preparation. Most Tixin-Xic recipes use grouper, drum or other white fish varieties, most caught locally in the Caribbean Sea. Regardless of the fish used, the filet will always be marinated with achiote and sour orange juice prior to cooking. Achiote, a red paste derived from annatto seeds, lends Tixin-Xic both its vibrant color and perfectly seasoned flavor. After seasoning, the fish is then wrapped in banana leaves and typically cooked over a wood fire.

Cochinita Pibil - Incorporating many of the local ingredients and techniques found in Tixin-Xic, cochinita pibil is a flavorful pork dish that can be found at all types of restaurants in Cancun. Prior to cooking, the pork is seasoned with achiote and sour orange juice, then wrapped in banana leaves. The meat is traditionally baked in an open pit, though other cooking techniques are accepted. The pork is served with vegetables, especially onions, and corn tortillas. A variation on this dish known as pollo pibil includes chicken instead of pork.

Huevos Motuleños - This breakfast dish is similar to another well-known Mexican dish, huevos rancheros. Like huevos rancheros, huevos motuleños includes eggs with cheese and red chile sauce served atop corn tortillas, but the Yucatecan dish adds a few regional flourishes such as locally-produced ham and fresh peas.

Panuchos, Salbutes and Empanadas - These small dishes are served both in restaurants and at food carts throughout Cancun. Panuchos are made with thick corn tortillas or fried corn masa filled with beans, then topped with shredded chicken, pork or turkey and garnished with cabbage and red onions. Salbutes are similar to panuchos as they begin with corn tortillas that are then topped with meat - turkey is often used for traditional salbutes - and a selection of garnishes. Yucatecan empanadas are quite different than the sweet, fruit-filled variations found throughout the world. In Cancun, empanadas are usually stuffed with a combination of potatoes and pork, chicken or fish. Znipec salsa, a local preparation that includes habanero peppers and sour orange juice, can often be found served alongside these snacks.

Pollo Ticuleño - This baked casserole-style dish includes layers of chicken, tortillas, cheese, mild tomato sauce and either potatoes or corn masa.

Papadzules - Though papadzules resemble other Mexican breakfast dishes at first glance, the preparation includes a few Yucatecan trademarks that create a uniquely robust flavor. The most common version of papadzules found in Cancun begins with chopped hard-boiled eggs laid atop corn tortillas that have been marinated in a pumpkin seed salsa. The eggs are then covered with a mild tomato sauces, diced peppers and other flavorful garnishes.

Xtabentún - This sticky-sweet liqueur serves as Cancun's most authentic mealtime cocktail. Composed of a rum-like base, anise seed and honey, Xtabentún is often served as an appetizer in Mexican and Yucatecan restaurants. Beverages made from rice, dragon fruit and chaya - a native Yucatecan plant - can also be found throughout Cancun.

The dishes mentioned here can be found throughout Cancun in everything from resort restaurants and upscale cafes to downtown markets and the carts of street vendors. As travelers don't need to look far for an authentic taste of the Yucatan, the native foods of Cancun provide the easiest and, of course, most delicious way to explore the region's rich flavors and traditions.

Airline Security By David Wilson

David Wilson

Ours is a changing world, and recent events have caused people the world over to take on new security measures, both personally and on a corporate level. Traveling to a foreign country, and even within your own country, has become more stringent with enhanced security requirements.

To beef up security and enhance customer service, many airlines, like TSA, are now conducting individual passenger screening at security checkpoints. TSA staff and screening equipment are concentrated at these checkpoints to perform random searches. Every passenger is required to have a boarding pass and photo identification in order to pass through a security gate. Tickets and ticket confirmations are longer accepted as valid identification at these checkpoints.

Many airlines now offer four methods of purchasing a boarding pass. New and convenient options include using the curbside check-in option, the airline's self-service ticket kiosk in the airport lobby, and the opportunity to purchase and print the boarding pass directly from your airline website. Of course, you can also pick up your boarding pass at the airline's ticket counter in the airport.

Check with your airline or travel agent to confirm the time you should arrive at the airport. It's also a good idea to confirm that there are parking lots available at the airport, or if shuttle service might be required.

Double-check to make sure that you have all of your valuables with you, as well as the documents required for boarding. Make sure that you have your boarding pass or ticket confirmation ready, as well as a piece of government-issued photo identification such as a driver's license or passport. If you have a medical implant or other device that can trigger the security alarm system, make sure that you have certified documentation from your doctor. Remove any prohibited items, such as pocketknives, before going through airport security.

It's a good idea to stay on the alert at all times. Keep close watch on your luggage, carry-on bags and other belongings. Never agree to carry a parcel for a stranger. If you find unattended bags at the airport, report it to a security officer rather than trying to pick them up yourself. If you see any individual that looks or acts suspicious, point it out to airline security. More than ever before, airline security is very serious business. Never joke about having bombs or firearms on board a plane or at security. The mere mention of such items can lead to lengthy questioning and possible expulsion from the airport.

You have definite rights as an airline passenger, but remember that this is a commercial service and your agreement may be subject to changes. In the case of a delayed flight, airlines will usually try to accommodate passengers by offering a seat aboard the next available flight. Rescheduling your flight on another airline is also an option, but there may be cancellation policies in effect.

Airlines typically overbook flights so double check your reservations to make sure you're guaranteed a seat. When a particular flight is overbooked, the airline will ask for volunteers to wait and board the next flight, and may offer cash or a free trip as an incentive. If there are no volunteers and you are involuntarily bumped, the airline will reserve another flight and you will be compensated for the inconvenience. If you fail to confirm your reservation or meet the check-in deadline, and if the plane has fewer than six available seats, no reward is offered for involuntary bumping.

You can easily avoid boarding hassles if you know your rights as a passenger and understand the airline terms and conditions for boarding. For your own safety and the security of airline personnel and other passengers, you need to take extra caution to avoid inevitable circumstances.

Being well informed is the ticket to enjoying a safe, secure, and pleasurable flight.
